Nantes centre-back Andrei Girotto (31) will leave the Ligue 1 side with a view to join Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Taawoun, according to a report this Wednesday from L’Équipe.
Girotto was entering his final year of contract with Les Canaris. Talks of a deal renewal have taken place between Nantes and their versatile centre-back. However, the French publication understands that the player’s agents have stalled in their attempts to strike a deal with FC Nantes.
Girotto was one of the longest-serving FC Nantes players, having joined the Loire Atlantique side six years ago for a €2m transfer fee from Brazilian club Tombense. The 31-year-old has played 205 games with Nantes. Girotto won the 2022 Coupe de France and went on to play the 2022-2023 Europa League with his teammates. L’Équipe understands that Nantes will bank a €4m transfer fee for the expected departure of Girotto to Al-Taawoun.
According to Ouest-France, Nantes manager Pierre Aristouy and the club’s executives unreservedly wanted to retain Girotto, who was deemed untransferable by Aristouy. The outlet understands that the Brazilian will quadruple his salary in Saudi Arabia.
