Napoli director Giovanni Manna held a presser a couple of days after the end of the window, explaining why they sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and missed out on a few replacements (via Il Mattino).

“We thank him for what he did here and gave to the city. We tried to solve this hairy situation many times, but we were forced to sell him in this session because we were almost blackmailed. We had to, but not to compensate for our summer moves. He had been talking with PSG since May. At first, we didn’t want to lose him to prove our strength. We did our best, but we couldn’t reach an agreement and completed the deal early to have time.”

Manna dished on Alejandro Garnacho, whom Napoli pursued for a few weeks.

“We had met with him even before the departure of Kvaratskhelia and lodged an important bid. However, in order to leave the Premier League in January, he wanted to be satisfied economically. It’s something we can’t do and don’t want to do at this time considering the average salary in our locker room. It wouldn’t be fair for a young newcomer to have the richest wages.”

Manna also addressed Karim Adeyemi and Allan Saint-Maximin, who didn’t join Napoli in the end.

“We had an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund, but he wasn’t sure and didn’t want to come here now. We didn’t insist. We don’t have to convince anybody. Instead, there was a bureaucratic problem for the latter. The Saudi team had economic requests that we and Fenerbahce couldn’t fulfill. We could have perhaps moved earlier for somebody like him.”
