Following the Partenopei’s devastating 3-0 defeat to Hellas Verona yesterday evening in their opening fixture of the 2024/25 Serie A season, Napoli are eyeing German veteran Mats Hummels to reinforce the back-line.

Radio Kiss Kiss states, via CalcioNapoli1926, that coach Antonio Conte’s side are prepared to make contacts with his representatives to gain information as they are eager to acquire the 35-year-old on a free transfer in order to bolster the back-line.

Since deciding to part-ways with Borussia Dortmund at the end of season following the maturity of his contract, Hummels has not been able to find a new club prior to the start of the season. Serie A clubs Bologna and Roma have both expressed interest, but were unable to reach an agreement with the well-documented defender.

Hence, Napoli are prepared to make a move with very little time remaining within the summer market as they firmly believe that Hummels’ immense amount of experience could play a key role throughout the season, as he possesses a large trophy case following his nearly everlasting stay within the Bundesliga.
