Nashville SC have acquired defender Shaq Moore from Spain second division team CD Tenerife, signing him through the 2025 Major League Soccer season with an option for 2026.

The Western Conference side purchased the player for an undisclosed amount, and sent $50,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money to CF Montreal for the right back’s discovery priority.

“Shaq has all of the positive attributes that we look for on both sides of the ball, as well as on and off the field,” Nashville general manager Mike Jacobs said in a release. “He has the ability to be a key contributor in our group, and we are so pleased to have him join us here in Nashville.”

The USMNT defender arrives to the American league after making 101 appearances for Tenerife across all competitions, nearly inspiring a promotion to La Liga.

Moore has spent the majority of his career in Spain, first debuting with CF Huracán Moncada at 18 years old before going on to play for Oviedo Vetusta, Atlético Levante UD, CF Reus Deportiu and CD Tenerife across different divisions.

Internationally, Moore has 15 caps for the US men’s national team. He kicked off in 2018 in a match against Paraguay, and has gone on to feature in several friendlies and vital World Cup qualifiers.

He’s now competing for a spot on the 26-player World Cup roster against teammate Walker Zimmerman.

Moore’s move helps Nashville alleviate the loss of Alistair Johnson, after he was traded to CF Montreal earlier this year. Head coach Gary Smith can now depend on Moore, Zimmerman, and Jack Maher to lead Nashville to maintain their fifth place standings on the Western Conference table in hopes to qualify for the postseason.
