Nashville SC forward Hany Mukhtar has won the 2022 MLS Golden Boot award.
In a hotly-contested race that went all the way down to Decision Day, Mukhtar notched 23 goals in 33 regular-season appearances.
That was enough to not only fire Nashville SC to fifth in the Western Conference, but also lift Mukhtar above his closest rivals, Sebastian Driussi of Austin FC and Daniel Gazdag of Philadelphia Union, who each scored 22 goals.
Further back, Chicharito, Jesus Ferreira, and FC Cincinnati duo Brenner and Brandon Vazquez completed a quartet of strikers on 18 goals.
Mukhtar will now look to carry his regular-season form into the Cup Playoffs, where Nashville travel to the in round one.
Between 1996-2004, the MLS Golden Boot was awarded on a points-based system, with 2 points given for a goal and 1 point given for an assist.
From 2005 onwards, the MLS Golden Boot was decided by most goals scored, with assists used as the tie-breaker.
