A pair of goals fromĀ Cristian Penilla lifted the Revolution past D.C. United atĀ Gillette Stadium.
In the 18th minute, a confident finish from Penilla put the home side on the board afterĀ KrisztiĆ”n NĆ©meth played on the cut-back service from Diego FagĆŗndez.
Former Atlanta United winger Yamil Asad scored just before halftime to equalize the match for D.C. but the visitors could not hold on.
Inside first half stoppage time, Revolution forward Teal Bunbury out-muscled Unitedās defenderĀ FrĆ©dĆ©ric Brillant to collect a ball out of the air in D.C.ās penalty area. Bunbury calmly dispatched his shot past both an on-rushing David Ousted and the recovering defender Steve Birnbaum to restore his sideās lead.
Asad notched the game at two apiece in the 73rd minute after converting a penalty earned by Jamaican forward Darren Mattocks. The brace from Asad would not be enough for D.C. to earn anything from the match as the visitors conceded a penalty just five minutes later.
RefereeĀ Allen Chapman whistled Oniel Fisher for a foul on Andrew Farrell in the area that D.C.ās social media staff certainly felt was dubious.
Penilla scored his penalty in the 78th minute to complete his brace and earn the Revolution three points.
Trading open-play goals in the first half and penalty goals in the second half, D.C.ās defensive lapse in stoppage time to allow Bunburyās goal was the key moment to separate the two sides.
