The Luton Town forward has been linked with a move to the John Smith's Stadium this summer

Huddersfield Town have added just five names to their squad ahead of their League One campaign so far, with the Terriers strengthening their squad in a number of key areas after their relegation from the Championship.

The Yorkshire side brought in Antony Evans from Bristol Rovers - with the midfielder netting on debut against Peterborough United on the opening day - while Herbie Kane also joined from Barnsley.

Wide threads Lasse Sorensen and Mickel Miller also moved to the John Smith’s Stadium from Lincoln City and Plymouth Argyle respectively, as well as striker Callum Marshall, who has made the move on loan from West Ham United.

But there has been one name on the lips of many Town fans in recent weeks, and Football League World’s Terriers fan pundit Graeme Rayner is one of many who would love to see Luton Town striker Joe Taylor join the club before the transfer window comes to an end.

Joe Taylor could be set for Huddersfield Town move

Transfer journalist Alan Nixon broke the news of Town’s interest in Taylor on his Patreon account earlier in the month, as the Terriers look to add to their attacking ranks before August comes to an end.

After Marshall’s addition, the Terriers have Rhys Healey and Danny Ward among the names competing for a starting spot in Michael Duff’s side as it stands, with Kian Harratt also looking to get minutes throughout the campaign.

With seven goals scored in their first three games of the season, Town have come out of the blocks flying so far in this campaign, but Rayner believes an extra bit of firepower could make all the difference in the year to come.

The Town fan said: “Joe Taylor is a player we have been linked to for weeks now, but it seems to have gone quiet.

“I think he would be the final piece of this season’s transfer jigsaw if we were able to get him over the line, and I remain hopeful that there may still be something happening there.

“We need a striker: Callum Marshall looks great but he’s very young and very raw, and all of our other strikers are either injury prone or a bit hit-and-miss.

“It would be nice to have someone who we are confident can play week in, week out, and put the goals away.”

Joe Taylor could help fire Huddersfield Town to promotion

Taylor has already shown he is more than capable of performing at League One level, with an outstanding loan spell at Lincoln City in the previous campaign proving his prowess in the final third.

His ten goals in 19 games for the Imps was a major contributing factor in Michael Skubala’s side shooting up the league table in the second-half of the 23/24 campaign, as they narrowly missed out on the third tier playoffs.

And with his chances at Kenilworth Road still looking as slim as ever - with the likes of Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris the first choice frontman at the club - a move away from the Hatters could be best for all involved.

With that in mind, Rayner is eager for his side to get the deal over the line in the coming days, as Town look to get back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

He continued “We need a 15-20 goal striker, so Joe Taylor would be fantastic. Ideally, as a permanent transfer, but if not, a loan with a view to buy, but if it has to be just a loan then it’s just a loan.

“Our priority is to just get out of the division. If that means we then have to recruit again next summer for that position from elsewhere, then so be it.

“All I care about this season is getting out of League One at the first time of asking, so that’s it, really straight forward one.”
