Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij says he’s “always happy to help the team” after the Nerazzurri beat RB Leipzig 1-0 in the Champions League.
The Dutchman reacted to the match speaking to InterTV, via FCInterNews.
Defender de Vrij started for Inter this evening against RB Leipzig.
The 32-year-old had not started against Hellas Verona. However, he played for the majority of that match, having replaced Francesco Acerbi early on in the first half due to an injury to the Italian.
And as he had done against Verona on Saturday, de Vrij helped Inter to a clean sheet.
It was yet another display of the former Lazio and Feyenoord defender’s defensive qualities.
De Vrij’s physicality in the penalty area as well as his instincts and anticipation meant that Leipzig striker Andre Silva did not manage to create much in the way of dangerous situations.
And during the closing stages of the match as Inter held on to protect a 1-0 lead, de Vrij’s experience and leadership at the back came very much in handy.
After this evening’s match, Inter defender de Vrij said that “It was an important, intense match.”
“We put in an excellent performance,” the Dutchman continued. “And in my view a great result.”
“We’re not looking to far ahead of ourselves,” de Vrij added.
Inter have gone to the top of the table of the “league phase” of the Champions League with their win this evening. At least until Liverpool play tomorrow.
“We’re thinking one match at a time.”
“That’s the only way that we can get results like we’re doing.”
And de Vrij also stated that “I feel good.”
“I’m doing well physically. I’m always happy when I can play and help the team.”
“I always try to do it to the best of my ability,” de Vrij said.
