“Never satisfied” – Bompastor looking for domestic treble after winning WSL with Chelsea

Sonia Bompastor said winning her first Barclays Women’s Super League title with Chelsea feels “unreal”, but her sights are still set on finishing the domestic season unbeaten and winning a domestic treble.
The Frenchwoman replaced legendary boss Emma Hayes ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and has managed a fantastic transition, with the Blues clinching the title with two games to play by beating Manchester United 1-0 and still on track for an unbeaten domestic campaign.
Lucy Bronze’s header, the only goal of the game, sealed the title for Chelsea after Arsenal’s shock 5-2 loss to Aston Villa earlier on Wednesday.
“It feels great. I told some players and some staff, after the game it feels a little bit unreal, because we were probably not expecting to achieve that tonight. I was not expecting Arsenal to drop points against Aston Villa (opening the door for Chelsea to win the title on Wednesday).
“We were focusing on ourselves. We just wanted to come here and bounce back again after the defeat on Sunday.”
After being thrashed 8-2 on aggregate by Barcelona in the Champions League, Bomapstor credited her team’s mentality in recovering to win the title tonight.
“To be able to come and play an away game three days after the Champions League semi-final loss, I think you have to be really professional, but also mentally really strong to be able to bounce back.
“I think some people maybe think because you are Chelsea it’s so easy to do that, but it’s not. I already said, mentally, that’s something really important for the teams and the great teams to be able to stay strong, even when you have lows in the season. I think that’s what we did.”
The Blues boss reflected on what has been a near-perfect first season in charge, thanking Emma Hayes for the legacy she left but also taking stock of her own achievements.
“To come as a new manager into the league, to come as a foreign coach, to struggle a little bit with the barrier language, tnd to be able to learn a lot about the club and the players and everything in England, and to be able to achieve things. It’s been a really high achievement.”
However, Bompastor will not rest on her laurels. With two games remaining against Tottenham and Liverpool, Chelsea may still secure a historic unbeaten WSL campaign. They also have an FA Cup final against Manchester United to come, and having won the Subway Women’s League Cup, a domestic treble in their sights.
“I always want more from (the players) and I’m never satisfied with what I get. Even when we win, I’m already almost focused on the treble and the FA Cup final. I never let them have five minutes to breathe.”
Chelsea’s next test comes against Tottenham Hotspur in the WSL on Sunday.
