Shelbourne FC are delighted to confirm that Evan Caffrey has signed a new and improved contract, extending his stay at Tolka Park beyond his previous deal.

Caffrey signed a two-year deal in November 2023 which was set to run until the end of 2025. The midfielder has today committed his future to the Champions by penning a new long term contract.

Caffrey joined the Reds from UCD ahead of the 2023 season and has been ever-present in Damien Duff’s side. He has made 83 appearances for Shels in all competitions, including 38 in 2024, scoring seven goals in total, including three goals last season along the way to the most memorable conclusion to a League of Ireland title race in history.

The 21-year-old has made a big impact since his arrival to Tolka in the winter of 2022. A technical midfielder who’s comfortable on both feet, Caffrey has been one of the most consistent performers at Shels in recent years.

Caffrey, whose carrying on the family tradition started by grandfather, the late Theo Dunne, who captained Shels in the 1960s, said: “I’m really happy to sign a new deal and secure my future here at Tolka Park. I’m excited to continue to learn and progress under the guidance of the manager and the staff and I’m looking forward to continuing to make Shelbourne Football Club great again along with my teammates, the staff and the fans.”

Damien Duff, Shelbourne FC manager said: “I know Evan 9 years now and it has been a pleasure to watch him grow into a fine player and a fine young man. He has a lot of brilliant qualities and can play many positions which is gold dust. He has started the season brilliantly and I have no doubt that he will play a massive part again, as he did last year.”

Luke Byrne, Shelbourne FC Technical Director said: “Evan has racked up a lot of games for such a young player and is improving as a player and gaining in confidence all the time working under the manager and staff. He will always put the team first and give his absolute all when called upon. They are amazing traits to have and is why we value him so highly. We have worked with Evan since he was a kid and we are so proud of his development and are delighted he will spend his best years with the club.”
