Barcelona’s pursuit of Luis Diaz appears to have taken a setback, as recent updates suggest that the Colombian forward is now edging closer to finalising his contract renewal with Liverpool, reports SPORT.

According to reports, there had been a period of stagnation in negotiations between all parties involved. However, a significant development in the last few hours has seemingly cleared the path for Diaz’s long-term stay at Anfield.

Liverpool have officially announced a new partnership with Adidas, which will take effect from the 2025-26 season.

As part of this agreement, the German sportswear giant will be responsible for supplying match kits, training gear, and lifestyle apparel for all of the club’s teams, including the men’s and women’s squads, academy sides, and the LFC Foundation staff.

While this deal primarily concerns the club’s commercial future, it could also have a direct influence on Diaz’s contractual situation.

How so?

Diaz is one of the key athletes endorsed by Adidas, making him a vital figure in their marketing campaigns.

Given this strong connection, sources in Colombia indicate that the new sponsorship deal could play a crucial role in reigniting contract negotiations between the player and Liverpool.

The fresh momentum in discussions could put an end to any lingering speculation regarding a possible transfer once the current season concludes.

Barcelona are interested

Barcelona, meanwhile, continue to monitor Diaz’s situation closely. The Catalan club have maintained direct communication with the player’s representatives, as they remain interested in bringing him to the club.

Sporting director Deco is actively searching for a winger who can also operate as a central forward when needed, and Diaz fits that profile perfectly.

However, Barcelona face a major hurdle in their pursuit of Diaz—his transfer fee. Liverpool would demand a significant sum for any potential sale, making it a difficult deal for the Spanish side to pull off.

While Barcelona have not given up on the possibility of signing the Colombian, the latest developments suggest that his future is now more likely to remain with Liverpool rather than heading to La Liga.
