A takeover at Bramall Lane appears to be edging ever closer

Movie director Joe Russo and health company CEO Helmy Eltoukhy are two new names who could be involved in the anticipated takeover of Sheffield United.

That's according to a report from The Sheffield Star, who say the two figures were present to see the Blades' derby win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon.

Since the start of the summer, there have been reports that an American consortium have been in talks to buy the Bramall Lane club from current owner Prince Abdullah.

Last week, it was suggested that the group, led by Steve Rosen, now only need to reach an agreement with the EFL over terms to complete the deal, with that not expected to be an issue.

Now it seems as two more key players in this move to buy Sheffield United have been identified.

Joe Russo and Helmy Eltoukhy in Blades takeover consortium

As per this latest update, both Russo and Eltoukhy look to be part of the group who are aiming to conclude a takever of the Championship club.

It is thought that the pair, along with Rosen, were hosted by Sheffield United CEO Stephen Bettis, as the club claimed Steel City bragging rights at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

Eltoukhy would apparently partner Rosen in fronting the bid, with Russo another figure who could invest in the company.

In the case of Eltoukhy, he is CEO and founder of California-based Guardant Health, which produces tests that can detect cancer from blood samples.

The company is said to have a market cap worth billions of pounds, while Eltoukhy's role in the comapny has apparently seen him gain a net worth of $439million.

Meanwhile, Joe Russo is perhaps best known for directing four films in the hugely successful Marvel franchise, along with his brother Anthony.

That includes Avengers: Endgame, which was for a period the highest grossing film of all time, making just under $2.8billion at the box office worldwide.

It apparently remains to be seen if Anthony will join his brother with an involvement in this potential takeover of Sheffield United.

On the pitch, that victory over Sheffield Wednesday saw the Blades move level on points with Sunderland at the top of the Championship table.

That is despite the fact Chris Wilder's side started the season with a two-point deduction for late transfer payments.

They are next in action after the international break on Saturday 23rd November, with a trip to the CBS Arena to take on Coventry City.

A potentially exciting update for Sheffield United

This news does feel like something that could raise more than a few eyebrows among supporters of the Blades.

It has been a long time since talk of a takeover first began, and many fans will surely want things to be confirmed sooner rather than later.

When it is done, focus can fully return to football issues for Sheffield United, with the club also in a secure position on the pitch.

Indeed, the emergence of two new investors suggests things are moving in the right direction, and it seems as these two should be able to put some decent funds into the club if they wish.

All of that will no doubt have Blades fans looking to the future with optimism, although they will also hope there are no rash moves, as other owners have been known to make in the past.
