Newcastle United have held talks over a January move for Strasbourg midfielder Ibrahima Sissoko.
That’s according to Sky Sports, who report that the possibility of a £10.5m deal for the 22-year-old has been discussed between the two clubs but negotiations are not at an advanced stage.
The Magpies are hoping to add reinforcements to their midfield engine room when the transfer window reopens in the New Year and according to the Newcastle Chronicle, Sissoko is one of a number of players they are looking at.
The France U21 international joined Strasbourg from Brest in 2018 and is said to be very interested in a move to the Premier League.
Steve Bruce currently has Isaac Hayden, Matty Longstaff, Sean Longstaff, Ki and Jonjo Shelvey to play the defensive midfield role but the Toon boss is reportedly still keen on adding depth to that department of his squad.
And the Chronicle reported earlier this week that owner Mike Ashley is set to make funds available for Bruce to spend on new players in January.
