This month, a report revealed that Bournemouth’s Illia Zabarnyi emerged as an ideal candidate for Paris Saint-Germain to bolster their backline.

Zabarnyi has been one of Bournemouth’s top performers this season, attracting interest from several clubs as the January transfer window approaches.

According to CaughtOffside last November, despite the Ukrainian defender signing a contract with Bournemouth that runs until 2029, the club is willing to consider offers of around £50 million. The report also indicates that Chelsea and Tottenham are both in the race to sign him.

Newcastle United have set their sights on Zabarnyi as they look to strengthen their defense, as reported by The i Paper. The club has yet to make any signings this month, largely due to their well-documented challenges in meeting Profit and Sustainability Rules.

However, with Miguel Almirón nearing a return to Atlanta United, the potential transfer could free up funds for a late move for Zabarnyi.

Eddie Howe has relied on Fabian Schär as his right-sided center-back, but with the veteran in the final year of his contract, Newcastle see Zabarnyi as a long-term solution who could anchor their defense for years to come.

According to a recent report from L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi, Zabarnyi isn’t interested in joining PSG. The Ukrainian defender is reportedly wary of potential tensions with Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

PSG had considered offloading Safonov to clear the way for Zabarnyi’s arrival, but his hesitation makes things more complicated. Despite this, manager Luis Enrique remains an admirer of the player.
