Newcastle United fell to a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.

The Magpies were second best throughout the match and deservedly lost by a heavy margin.

Newcastle suffered the first blow when Omar Marmoush lobbed a brilliant finish over the head of Martin Dubravka in the 19th minute.

The Egyptian added two more in the space of 14 minutes to complete a superb treble, which is the fourth-quickest Premier League hat-trick by a City player.

James McAtee wrapped up the win for the visitors with a late fourth as Newcastle missed the chance to climb into the top fourth.

Manager Eddie Howe will likely be disappointed with the performances of many players and he will especially be unhappy with Kieran Trippier.

The English boss started the 34-year-old as a right-back in Saturday’s important game against City.

However, he failed to repay the faith of his manager as he produced a horrible display to receive a 3/10 rating from Chronicle Live.

Trippier completely misjudged a long ball over the top, allowing Marmoush to score the first goal for his side.

The January signing also got the better of him shortly after to double the Citizens’ advantage.

Tino Livramento took over from Trippier after half-time, with the experienced defender enduring a torrid game at the Etihad.

The former Atletico Madrid star had fewer touches than Dubravka (27) and lost 100% of his duels.

He committed three fouls and lost possession on three occasions. The right-back failed to make a tackle but registered an interception and a clearance.
