Newcastle United are nearing the £68m sales of Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton as the club look to complete business before the June 30 deadline for the 2023-24 financial year.

The Magpies have reluctantly decided to sell Anderson and Minteh to ease their Premier League Profit and Sustainability concerns, amid fears over a potential points deduction next season.

Eddie Howe is a big fan of 21-year-old midfielder Anderson, though Sky Sports are reporting that the decision to sell has been made as a ‘last resort’ to avoid sanctions ahead of the new season.

Anderson made 10 league starts last season and the transfer to Nottingham Forest is expected to provide the Scotland u-21 international with increased minutes, while ‘attractive personal terms’ have eased the reluctance to leave his boyhood club.

Newcastle and Forest had been in discussions over a deal that would see Anthony Elanga move in the opposite direction, though that deal is now off. The transfer of Anderson will be a straight sale for Newcastle and bring in a profit in the region of £35m.

Anderson’s exit should solve Newcastle’s PSR problems ahead of the deadline, alongside the sale of Yankuba Minteh who has agreed a move to Brighton.

The fee involved is believed to be £33m, a significant profit on the £5.9m spent to sign the Gambian winger from Odense last summer. Minteh impressed on loan at Feyenoord in 2023-24, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists, and also had offers from Everton and Lyon.

The departures leave Newcastle in a stronger position to retain their leading names, amid interest from Chelsea in Alexander Isak.
