It may only be September but Newcastle are already planning for the January transfer window.
The Magpies’ start to the season has been a real mixed bag and it seems manager Steve Bruce is hoping to add some much-needed depth to his squad in the New Year.
And on Wednesday, Italian outlet Calciomercato carry an interesting report which claims a Newcastle scout was spotted at Hellas Verona’s 0-0 draw with Udinese on Tuesday.
According to their information, the player they were there to watch was Koray Günter, who is currently on loan at Hellas Verona from Genoa.
The scout is said to have been left “satisfied” by what he saw from the 25-year-old centre back and a €10m offer could be made in January.
However, Hellas Verona do reportedly have a €5m purchase option, which could make things somewhat complicated.
What may happen is that the Serie A club will exercise their purchase option and then make a quick profit by selling Günter to Newcastle for twice the price.
It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
