Visiting LASK on Saturday evening

Seven days after our 5-1 home win against FC Blau-Weiß Linz, we are away to face their local rivals!  On Saturday 17 August, we visit LASK at the Raiffeisen Arena in the third ADMIRAL Bundesliga game week at 19:30 CEST.

The Upper Austrians will not want to be reminded of our last meeting, when our Red Bulls were whipped into a frenzy and ran out 7-1 winners in the last match of the 2023/24 season. Our most recent visit to Linz did not go nearly as well, as we were beaten 1-3.

There has been plenty of goings-on at the team coached by Thomas Darazs over the summer. The headlines have been made by the signing of Jerome Boateng, who is still waiting to make his debut for LASK, however, due to a groin problem. The 35-year-old could be in contention to feature against us. There have been other new signings in Linz in the shape of Alexis Tibidi and Maximilian Entrup, both well-known Austrian Bundesliga figures with a goal threat. Defensive loanee Hrvoje Smolcic from Eintracht Frankfurt even brings German Bundesliga experience.

It was a bit of a surprise to see Linz slip-up at home to Altach last week. After winning 2-1 in Hartberg on the opening weekend, they lost to the same scoreline against expectations. Just like us, LASK face a vital European tie next week. While we are away on Wednesday in our Uefa Champions League play-off at FC Dynamo Kyiv, LASK face FCSB Bucharest for a place in the UEFA Europa League.

The match at Twente was important as it showed that we can play our football away from home too in front of lots of spectators and battle to get a result. We will need this experience against LASK too, probably. They had a surprise defeat in their last home match, and they will definitely want to show a reaction. They have lots of good players and can make life very difficult for us. We have to be prepared for that.

The match against Twente a few days ago was very intensive. We want to be in the Champions League though, and that's a part of that. We need to recover well before Saturday and then put in everything we can to build on our previous performances. LASK are certain to be really on it after their defeat recently. That won't surprise us. The most important thing is that we play our own game, as we want to win.
