Napoli have been left concerned about the condition of Cyril Ngonge after he was forced to withdraw from training early today.
The 23-year-old Belgian forward joined the Partenopei from Hellas Verona in the January transfer window in a deal worth around €18m, signing a four-year deal with the club. He initially looked positive, scoring against Genoa and assisting against Verona, but then missed four games with muscle issues.
Napoli have failed to turn their form around under interim coach Francesco Calzona and look all but certain to miss out on a spot in the Champions League. Aurelio De Laurentiis is aware that a reaction is needed and he’s working to convince Antonio Conte to take on the job in the summer.
Napoli released their training report today, confirming that Ngonge was forced to withdraw from the squad session early due to a blunt trauma on his left thigh. Considering his recent muscle issues, the club are concerned about his condition.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia continued training individually as he works to return from his adductor issue, an injury that forced him to miss out on the 3-0 loss to Atalanta.
In the first half of this season, Ngonge scored six goals and provided two assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.
