An insight into the one leading doubt in the mind of Athletic Club star Nico Williams when it comes to the possibility of joining La Liga rivals Barcelona has on Friday been detailed.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and points towards one factor as stalling Williams’ decision more than any other – timing.

It has of course been common knowledge for some time now that Nico has positioned himself front and centre on the transfer wishlist at the aforementioned Barcelona.

Boasting quick feet, explosive pace, finished product, and even a close bond with several Blaugrana stars, the 22-year-old is considered the ideal addition to new manager Hansi Flick’s frontline.

After the transfer was labelled as something of a formality earlier in the summer, however, recent weeks have seen any deal between Barca and Athletic thrown into serious doubt.

This comes with Nico himself yet to give the definitive go-ahead to taking his talents to the Camp Nou.

So, why the hold-up?

As alluded to above, on Friday, Mundo Deportivo have provided an insight into precisely that.

The Spanish outlet have confirmed that Nico is indeed interested in pulling on the colours of Barcelona in the not-so-distant future.

He is less sure, however, about whether now marks the right time for as much.

‘Nico has been assailed by doubts about whether it is the best time to leave Athletic, and join Barca,’ it is confirmed.

The Euro 2024 winner would seemingly feel more comfortable making the move in the summer of 2025, a scenario which Deco and the Blaugrana brass are not entirely opposed to, albeit only in the case of his release clause remaining the same.
