Nico Williams had a difficult evening on Saturday, as they failed to make an impact during Athletic Club’s defeat to Barcelona at the Estadi Olimpic. The 22-year-old was also whistled by home supporters during the first half, with the reasons believed to be due to his decision not to join the Catalan club this summer.

Williams lost his battle with Jules Kounde, and to make matters worse, he picked up muscle discomfort during the 90 minutes. He will be assessed by Athletic’s medical staff in the next 24 hours, as per Marca.

As things stand, Williams is still fit to face Valencia at San Mames on Tuesday evening, although Ernesto Valverde may opt to rest his star winger with next weekend’s showdown against Atletico Madrid in mind.

Williams wasn’t the only Athletic Club player to leave the Estadi Olimpic struggling. Yuri Berchiche suffered a knock to his shoulder during the match, and he will also require an appointment with the medical team.
