Graham Potter says solutions must be found as we look to recover what is left of the current season.
West Ham were undone by Crystal Palace at the weekend with little response, as the team looked leggy and struggling for ideas against the well-organised south London side.
Speaking after the game to the clubs Official Website, new Head Coach Potter admitted that his side were second best, however he acknowledges that work now needs to be done to get the team operating more efficiently.
“We’re at a stage where we need to learn, we need to help the team, and we need to find solutions going forwards,” said the former Brighton boss.
“In terms of the performance, it wasn’t one that we’re so happy about and obviously the result we’re disappointed with because I don’t think we deserved to get anything from the game.
“We have to accept that as much as it’s not nice to hear, we have to be honest with ourselves and say ‘Okay, we need to do better, we need to find a way to be better’ and that’s where the process is, that’s where the work is and that’s what we need to do.”
Potter though did highlight the importance of what the Academy players brought to the side when they came on against the Eagles, despite West Ham trailing at the time – showing a real element of trust from the new man in charge.
“It’s nice for the young lads to get on and play because I think they did well and they’ve done well since we’ve been here,” added Potter. “So that type of enthusiasm, that type of personality we need here because we need to get the crowd behind us, we need to get them involved in the game. We weren’t able to do that at the start and that’s the disappointing bit and that’s what we need to keep working on.
“I think sometimes young players have got an enthusiasm, they’ve got no fear, they’ve got a desire to just play football and I think both of the guys who came on the pitch have trained well with us.
“They’re highly thought of within the Club so it’s an important part of our Club going forward and it’s nice to see them on the pitch.”
