Dan Burn went viral last week after he was spotted helping a complete stranger in Newcastle, pushing their broken down car on the road.

The large Newcastle United defender is exactly the type of build you’d want help in moving a vehicle. But it’s exceptionally rare to see a Premier League footballer go out of their way to perform a random act of kindness in their spare time, which is probably why it garnered so much attention.

It’s measure of the man who has gained a reputation for being a thoroughly likeable and genuine human being over the years, as well as an accomplished centre-back who only last month won his first major trophy and first England cap.

Magpies assistant coach Jason Tindall certainly thinks so. Standing in for Eddie Howe, who has been struck down with pneumonia, ahead of their meeting with Crystal Palace on Wednesday he told the media that “no one here was surprised” by the scenes near Moor Farm.

“Dan is such a level-headed lad,” Tindall said at his pre-match press conference. “You know every single day he steps foot into the building and you know what he is going to deliver. He is going to give 100 percent commitment on and off the pitch.

“He has always got time for people and always ready to give a helping hand wherever and whenever that maybe.

“It’s a big credit to Burn and his character. But no one was surprised because that is Dan Burn. He’s got all the credit and accolades on the back of that fantastic attitude.”
