With the devastating news for Manchester City that Rodri could be set to miss the rest of the season, it was imperative other midfielders stepped up in his absence.
And that’s exactly what Matheus Nunes has done tonight against Watford, finally scoring his first goal for the club.
The Portuguese midfielder has struggled for both game time and form since his £50m+ move from Wolves in 2023 but he got a goal he badly needed in the 38th minute against the Hornets.
Rico Lewis moved in from the right with the ball and picked out Nunes, who found some space before near-passing the ball into the net with a lovely left-footed finish to double his side’s lead.
Could this kickstart his City career? And possibly provide Pep Guardiola with a Rodri replacement?
