Miquel takes charge of The Foxes for the first time in a competitive fixture when they face Liverpool in St Helens on Sunday afternoon.
When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Miquel explained that she has set no specific points or league position targets for her side and that the focus is on performance.
“No, we don’t have a special target in terms of points or league position,” Miquel said. “For me, the process is making the team understand what we want to do on and off the field and improving game after game.
“We want to do better than in the last few seasons but we don’t have a specific aim yet. We will adapt as we go.”
Leicester City are one of several teams that will be looking to gatecrash the Barclays Women’s Super League’s top four in the coming years. Miquel says that The Foxes could achieve that aim this season but it cannot be set as a concrete a target.
She said “Coming from the French league where my previous team was not expected to finish fourth, I can tell you that anyone can achieve that. Sometimes, you feel it coming one season and you get it completely wrong and sometimes, you don’t feel it and you finish fourth, so it’s hard to predict that. Also being new in this league, I can’t really anticipate things. We will see how it goes and then mid-season, after playing every team once, I can tell you more about that.”
Going on to discuss Sunday’s game at Liverpool, Miquel again said that there is no pressure hanging over her side to deliver a result, although an opening day three points would always be welcomed.
She said “Of course, I will go home happier if it’s a win but if it’s not, it’s not a problem. I’m not really wanting the team, the club and myself to focus on winning or losing because it’s limiting the process. I think we have to finish that game happy with what we have shown and what we have trained to do. If it’s a win, it’s better but if not, it’s not a problem.”
Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
