Beerschot ended a run of eight successive defeats with a 2-2 draw last Friday against Westerlo. While the on pitch performances have been poor, off the pitch, things aren’t really in place to bring success. Dirk Kuyt can certainly point to a number of factors, such as a slow transfer window, as to why he and his side have struggled in the Belgian Pro League following their promotion.

One area that former Liverpool man Kuyt did highlight, as reported by Voetbalkrant, is the extent to which the side do not even have a training ground. What was supposed to be their regular training ground, in Wilrijk, was described as unplayable by Kuyt. As a result, the side tried to find a new location to train, but that was unsuccessful. In the end, the home stadium is now doubling up as the training ground as well. For a professional side in the top flight of Belgian football, this is a poor sign. That they cannot afford to give the side a decent training ground is a worrying sign for the Beerschot fans. For many pundits, the side are pretty much certain to be relegated after just 10 games.

The club share owners with Sheffield United in the Championship. Last year it was widely reported that the owners were looking to sell their Belgian club, until they won a surprising promotion to the Belgian top flight.
