All the latest news surrounding Norwich City's search for a new manager
Norwich City are searching for a new manager after April’s decision to part ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup.
The Canaries suffered an underwhelming Championship campaign, with the team dropping to 13th in the table.
The Norfolk outfit had finished sixth in the previous season under David Wagner, but came 11 points behind the play-off places under the Dane.
Norwich will be hoping their next appointment will be able to bridge that gap and get the team competing for promotion to the Premier League once again next year.
Here we look at the latest news surrounding their efforts to find a permanent replacement for Thorup…
According to Alan Nixon, Norwich will face a key stumbling block in their potential pursuit of Pepijn Lijnders.
It was reported by The Telegraph earlier this month that the ex-Liverpool coach was interviewed over the vacancy, with Steve Cooper and Gary O’Neil also sought after.
However, it has now been claimed that the compensation required to appoint him could prevent a deal from taking place.
While he is currently out of work, it’s understood that former employer RB Salzburg will still need to be compensated in order for him to become available.
Bristol City manager Liam Manning is reportedly a candidate for the vacant manager position at Carrow Road.
According to Ben Jacobs, the 39-year-old is also under consideration at Leicester City ahead of their return to the Championship.
Manning led the Robins to a sixth place finish in the table this season, but came through the ranks of the Norwich academy system and grew up in the area, so may feel a strong enough connection to the club to warrant a switch.
However, it remains to be seen whether he would be willing to depart Ashton Gate after such a strong campaign.
It has also been reported by Bristol Live that no official approach has yet been made by the Norfolk outfit as speculation mounts.
Jack Wilshere was placed in charge of the Norwich first team squad on an interim basis following Thorup’s departure from the club.
However, it has been reported by the BBC that the coach has exited the club after being overlooked for the permanent position.
He is seeking his first role as a manager, having previously worked at underage level at Arsenal before becoming a part of Thorup’s coaching staff last year.
Norwich earned four points from a possible six from Wilshere’s two games in charge.
Thorup could be set for a quick return to the Championship after being sacked by Norwich in April.
It has been reported by Danish outlet Tipsbladet that the 36-year-old is closing in on the managerial vacancy at QPR.
The London outfit are searching for a new head coach after Martí Cifuentes’ departure after the team finished 15th in the table.
Thorup led the Canaries to a mid-table finish just 12 months after the club had earned a play-off place, but he is set for a quick return to the second division as he closes in on a move to Loftus Road.
