Max Aarons and Gabriel Sara's exits suggests that the Whites may be able to get a shrewd deal over the line for Jonathan Rowe.
Leeds United are poised to make an offer for Norwich City star Jonathan Rowe.
That's according to The Telegraph, who believe that the Whites and the Canaries have engaged in preliminary talks regarding the wide player, who enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 campaign at Carrow Road.
His contributions helped Norwich to secure a top-six finish at the end of the campaign and with this in mind, it's no shock to see the player attract interest this summer.
Give Me Sport's report back in May revealed that Wolverhampton Wanderers were considering a bid for the winger - and an offer can't be ruled out - with Darren Witcoop claiming that the West Midlands club are still interested in the England youth international.
Aston Villa and Crystal Palace were also linked with a move for him last year, so it wouldn't be a shock to see Rowe attract numerous bids between now and the end of the summer transfer window.
This seems like an ambitious move, but Leeds may have the funds to get a deal over the line for the player following Crysencio Summerville's £25m+ move to West Ham United.
The Telegraph believes the Whites are set to submit £7m for Rowe, with the same outlet reporting that it will take much more than that for the Canaries to let him go this summer.
For a player of the 21-year-old's calibre, this claim comes as no shock.
At this point, the player has one year left on his contract, with the Canaries reportedly holding an option to extend that by a further year.
With this in mind, this summer may be seen as the perfect opportunity to sell him.
Rowe enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 campaign, but there are no guarantees that he will be able to replicate that during the upcoming season, considering he hasn't performed like he did last term for several years in a row.
As well as this, you have to look at the Canaries' previous sales.
There are various numbers being floated around in terms of the amount they generated from Gabriel Sara's sale, but The Telegraph believes he may have left in a £15m+ deal.
Considering the Brazilian had two years left on his contract, with the club having the option to extend that by a further year, and the fact he registered 14 goals and 13 assists in all competitions last season, that isn't a huge amount of money.
His sale, plus Max Aarons and Andrew Omobamidele's departures last summer, show that the Canaries are willing to cash in on players and that should give Leeds confidence.
Aarons, who is a very promising full-back with a high ceiling, was sold to AFC Bournemouth for only £7m last summer.
That's the amount that Leeds are prepared to bid for Rowe.
It would be no surprise if that bid is rejected, but it may not take that much more to lure the Englishman to Elland Road.
All sorts of clauses can be included in deals, and if both a sell-on and a buy-back clause are included in this deal, as well as add-ons, they may not have to pay much more than £7m initially.
That money, with the amount generated for Sara, could give Johannes Hoff Thorup a very decent amount to spend in the coming weeks.
There are no guarantees that Rowe would be a starter under Daniel Farke, but there's a real chance he could secure a decent amount of game time under his belt.
Dan James can play on the left and Willy Gnonto can operate on the right, but the former didn't always start last term and only made a substitute appearance in the play-off final against Southampton.
In hindsight, Farke should have started him at Wembley, considering how well the Welshman performed.
In terms of Gnonto, an exit for him can't be ruled out before the end of the window, with the Italian continuing to be linked with an exit from Elland Road in recent times.
But even if he doesn't leave, Farke has shown a willingness to leave him on the bench before and Rowe, who scored more times than Gnonto last season, could start regularly.
Considering how much potential he has, it would be foolish for Leeds to sign Rowe and then not start him most weeks.
