Daniel Farke brought Teemu Pukki to Norwich City in 2018 and it proved an incredible bit of business

The last 15 years or so have been a successful period for Norwich City, with the Canaries working their way back from League One to spend multiple years in the Premier League, and a number of players have become modern-day legends at Carrow Road during that time.

One player who certainly cemented his status as a modern-day legend at the Canaries was striker Teemu Pukki, who was signed on a free transfer in 2018, looking to make amends for his previous spell in British football where he was anything but prolific in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic.

However, Daniel Farke had seen something in the Finnish striker, bringing him to Carrow Road after his contract had expired with Danish club Brondby, and nobody would have expected Pukki to be just as good as he was for the Canaries.

Pukki departed last summer after five years at Norwich, and it's fair to say he'll be remembered fondly in Norfolk.

After being relegated from the Premier League in 2016, Norwich had finished 8th and then 14th in the Championship, and not much was expected from the Canaries ahead of the 2018/19 season in what was Farke's second season in charge.

The signing of Pukki didn't look like business to get too excited about either, given his struggles in Scotland and status as a free agent, but it didn't take him long to win over the Carrow Road faithful.

Both Norwich and Pukki enjoyed stellar 2018/19 seasons, with Norwich taking the division by storm to win the league, while the Finnish striker scored 29 league goals, winning the Championship Golden Boot, Championship Player of the Season, PFA Fans' Player of the Year and being named in both the EFL and PFA Team of the Year.

It was arguably one of the greatest individual Championship campaigns in history, with Pukki winning a host of awards as well as helping his side win the league, and he continued that rich vein of form in the Premier League.

He scored six goals in his first five games, winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for August 2019, but he somewhat struggled after that, scoring just another five goals as the Canaries were relegated.

Still, 11 goals for a relegated side was a decent return, and he was prolific yet again in the Championship the following season.

Pukki scored another 26 league goals during the 2020/21 campaign as he helped Norwich win the Championship title again, and he was named in both the EFL and PFA Team of the Season after his impressive campaign.

Norwich were relegated from the Premier League at the first attempt yet again, but it was another impressive season from Pukki as he matched his tally from the 2019/20 season with 11 league goals, and he showed no signs of letting up, despite being in his thirties.

His final season saw his worst return in terms of goals, with just ten in the Championship, but it was still a decent campaign as he announced he would depart at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

After five years at Carrow Road, Pukki departed in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer with 88 goals to his name.

Teemu Pukki is still scoring goals in the MLS

Pukki made the move across the Atlantic after leaving Norwich last summer, joining MLS side Minnesota United, and he's still scoring goals, despite being 34.

He's found the back of the net 14 times in 35 MLS games, and he's still scoring for Finland too, scoring in their 4-1 play-off defeat to Wales in March, before adding a brace of goals against Portugal in a friendly in June.

While he's not been quite as prolific at Minnesota United as he was with Norwich, particularly in his early seasons at Carrow Road, he's shown he's still a capable goalscorer, and has proved a good addition to the MLS.

Pukki turns 35 this season, but he's shown no signs of slowing down, and rightly so considering his decent goalscoring record across the pond.
