The US international took a little while to warm up following his move to Carrow Road from Werder Bremen in 2021, but the Canaries forward has been red hot in front of goal in recent times.

Sargent, 24, bagged 16 goals in 28 Championship appearances last season, with his goals being instrumental to Norwich's sixth-placed finish.

The 24-year-old had been the subject of transfer interest this summer, particularly from the MLS, with the Canaries understood to have set an asking price of around $25m (approx £18.9m) after FC Cincinnati tested their resolve.

So, where does Sargent's value rank among his Championship peers? Football League World investigates...

Sargent's value compared to fellow Championship stars

With the Championship being a league that is only continuing to grow in quality and exposure on an annual basis, the division is being occupied by an ever-increasing number of highly valuable players.

Gone are the days of the division's top performers being poached for relatively small transfer fees, second tier clubs are taking full advantage of the current state of the transfer market and are demanding top dollar for their prized assets.

But which Championship player currently has the highest transfer value? And where does Sargent's price tag rank compared to the other stars of the league?

Using Transfermarkt's player values as per 05/09/24, FLW has taken a look, and you might be surprised at the findings...

In joint-20th and valued at €12m (approx £10.1m) are players such as Sheffield United's Vini Souza, Luton's Elijah Adebayo, Leeds' Brendon Aaronson and Plymouth's Morgan Whittaker.

Ranking just outside the top 10 most valuable Championship players, with a value of €14m (approx £11.7m) are players such as Leeds duo Daniel James and Joel Piroe, as well as Norwich's Sargent, who sits in 13th.

Just pipped to a top 10 spot among the Championship's most valuable players, Sargent can probably count himself a tad unlucky.

All with values of €15m, (approx £12.6m) rounding out the top 10 is Sheffield United's Gustavo Hamer, Norwich's Callum Doyle, Burnley's Josh Brownhill, Leeds' Pascal Struijk and Burnley's Aaron Ramsey.

Sargent will once again be crucial to Norwich's promotion hopes this season

Whilst Sargent may not have been as high up on that list as he perhaps ought to be, the American will continue to show his worth on the pitch this season.

Norwich's top scorer for the last two years running, Sargent has already got off to a flying start in 2024/25, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the opening four league fixtures.

Sargent's 32 shots on target ranked him among the top 91.8 percentile of Championship strikers last season, whilst his 81.8% pass accuracy and 23 chances created placed him in the top 90.6 and 84.7 percentiles respectively - per FotMob.

Should Johannes Hoff Thorup's side harbour ambitions of another promotion push this term, Sargent's form will undoubtedly be key to their chances of ending their Premier League exile.

With the US international contracted at Carrow Road until the summer of 2028, Norwich should be in absolutely no rush to sell, and if they do, they won't be settling for anything less than a premium price.
