It has been reported that Nottingham Forest have joined newly-promoted Leeds United for Manchester City's attacking midfielder James McAtee.
In what has already been a frantic start to their summer transfer window, Leeds United have been dealt a further setback with it being revealed that Nottingham Forest are rivalling them for the signing of Manchester City attacking midfielder James McAtee.
The Whites gained promotion to the Premier League on Easter Monday before winning the title on the final day of the season in dramatic fashion with a late come from behind defeat of relegated Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.
Daniel Farke had been the subject of speculation that he was going to be sacked but he has now been backed by chairman Paraag Marathe with reports also claiming that he will be given £150 million to spend in this summer’s transfer window.
One of the many players that they have been linked with thus far, James McAtee, is one deal that may be tough to get over the line with Premier League competition for his signature.
According to a report in The Telegraph, Nottingham Forest want at least five key targets this summer with McAtee, as well as Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, among those that they want.
It also states in the report, written by John Percy, that Forest want a left-back but a lot of their plans are set to be shaped by the future of Morgan Gibbs-White, who is a target for Manchester City, as well as which European competition they end up in with all three of the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League still possibilities in the final two weeks of the campaign.
If Forest are having to wait before finalising their wish-list and then moving on players then that could offer Leeds an opportunity to poach Walkden-born McAtee in the meantime.
McAtee was the subject of interest from Leeds last summer, too, and the Sunday Mirror have recently reported that Leeds are ‘well placed’ to sign the 22-year-old in this window.
Leeds having competition from not only Nottingham Forest but also Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of McAtee is not the only bit of frustrating transfer news for Farke’s side to have had to contend with of late.
Sacha Tavolieri reported on Monday that Olympique de Marseille were leading the race to sign Manor Solomon, who enjoyed a positive season on loan at Elland Road this year, with the Israel international reportedly giving the ‘green light’ to a potential move.
The Yorkshire Evening Post have also claimed that a rumoured move for Everton and Guinea-Bissau international striker Beto is now deemed as unlikely to happen.
As well as that, they had been heavily linked with a move for Japan international midfielder Hidemasa Morita but fresher reports indicate that Sporting CP are now negotiating a new contract with the 30-year-old.
