Gonzalo Montiel (right) and Nicola Dominguez (left) have both been linked with Nottingham Forest.
Premier League club Nottingham Forest are hoping to complete the signings of two Argentine players, according to reports.
Forest got their first points of the season when they beat Sheffield United 2-1 at the City Ground last Friday.
It took a late Chris Wood header to get the victory for Steve Cooper’s side. Taiwo Awoniyi was also on the scoresheet.
Cooper appears to be content with his attacking options with his two main men up top finding the back of the net, on top of the summer signing of Anthony Elanga from Manchester United.
After earning promotion in 2022, the Reds’ summer transfer business was absolutely chaotic but they have taken a more reserved approach this time around, completing four permanent signings with less than two weeks until the transfer deadline.
Cooper is yet to sign a midfielder in the summer window and has identified Bologna’s Nicola Dominguez as a top target.
It was reported earlier this month that Forest are battling Turkish giants Galatasaray for the signing of the Argentine midfielder, who is valued at around €20million (£17.1million).
On Monday, TyC Sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claimed that Dominguez is now ‘close’ to joining the Premier League club after they placed an insufficient bid last week.
Merlo also discussed rumours Forest are looking to sign Sevilla right-back Gonzalo Montiel, who scored the crucial penalty in Argentina’s World Cup and Sevilla’s Europa League shootout victories.
It is claimed that the two clubs have agreed an €11m (£9.4m) fee and the 26-year-old will fly to England on Monday in order to finalise the transfer.
Fabrizio Romano adds that Montiel will join on loan with an €11m buy clause that may become mandatory.
He wrote on Twitter: “Gonzalo Montiel, on his way to England today as he’s set to join Nottingham Forest on loan deal with €11m buy clause that could become mandatory.
“Final details to be clarified today in order to get the deal done.”
Arsenal fans will be gutted to learn this having read reports the Reds wanted to pay as much as £30m for Tavares.
Montiel is a handy alternative to Tavares, who is surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium.
