Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui has hailed teammate Leny Yoro’s seamless adaptation under Ruben Amorim.

Yoro has been one of the very few success stories for United during what has been an immensely difficult season.

The Frenchman joined United in the summer from Lille in a deal worth around €62m (£52m), including add-ons. He endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford after picking up an injury in pre-season.

However, he has done well since returning to the fold in December. Yoro scored his first goal for the Red Devils in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie with Olympique Lyonnais.

He has 18 appearances in the Premier League this term, and 27 across all competitions.

Initially, Amorim deployed Yoro on the right side of his three-man defence system but in the past few games, the 19-year-old has slotted on the left and barely looked out of place.

Mazraoui spoke to Premier League Productions [as quoted by club media] and was asked if he felt the squad is slowly getting used to the way Amorim wants to play.

The Moroccan replied, “Yes, I think a big example of that is Leny [Yoro]. How he started off as this left centre-back and how he is doing now.”

“He has really improved. The way he is taking the ball, he is carrying the ball a lot more, it’s a little bit where we want to go and end eventually.”

Mazraoui revealed that he enjoys playing in both the centre-back and wing-back roles.

“I think I have great qualities in defence, as well as in attacking, so I think right centre-back suits me at this moment really well.”

“But I like to play wing-back from time to time, just to really attack, you know.”

United are back in action on Sunday when they go away to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth. Kick-off is at 14:00 BST.
