Darren Bent insists that he has faith in Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans as Wolves close in on signing Ki-Jana Hoever from Liverpool.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Premier League striker admits he has mixed emotions about the club letting the likes of Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota leave to be replaced by unproven players.
As revealed by Football Insider, Wolves have agreed terms to sign Hoever, 18, for a deal worth a potential £13.5million, while Jota is set to head in the opposite direction in a £45million move.
Wolves also let star defender Doherty leave Molineux for Tottenham during the off-season while they have brought in the likes of Fabio Silva and Marcal through the door.
Bent believes that the fact Wolves are willing to let their proven talents depart be replaced by players untested in the Premier League is a risk but that Nuno must have a reason behind his decisions.
“Jota’s left, Matt Doherty’s left – you’d hope they can keep the gang together as such because they’ve built something really nice there at Wolves,” Bent told Football Insider.
“The last thing you want to see is a lot of their top players leave. It’s an interesting time. You go to Nuno and you’d say Nuno knows what he’s talking about,”
“You’d like to think that he must have a plan in place and that he knows exactly what he’s doing.
Wolves kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United as Jota was left as an unused substitute.
Hoever has never played in the top flight and he has made just four appearances for Liverpool’s senior side.
In other Wolves news, Alan Hutton claims the club’s chiefs must be “over the moon” after huge news from Molineux.
