Nuri Sahin is remaining hopeful that Julien Duranville can finally stay fit for an extended period of time, having dealt with a string of injuries in recent months.
Regarded as one of the most exciting young forwards in the world, Julien Duranville joined Borussia Dortmund from RSC Anderlecht in January 2023 for a fee close to ten million euros. But his development so far at the club has been impeded by injury problems, and he has only been able to make six appearances for the BVB first-team.
Duranville is on his way back from his latest muscle injury, and could make his return to the Borussia Dortmund squad when they go up against SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga this weekend. And Nuri Sahin spoke about the talented winger’s struggles with injuries during his pre-match press conference.
"Every time the boy is on the training pitch, it's fun to watch. He has already shown signs of his potential, the question is whether he can stay healthy. Then he'll make his mark. He is simply too good. He has become more stable and more mature mentally. Now it's up to all of us to make sure that he can play every three days," Sahin said.
Borussia Dortmund will certainly hope that Duranville’s injury struggles are finally behind him and he can start to showcase the potential that prompted the club to sign him. The 18 year old is also rated very highly in Belgium, and was rewarded with his maiden call-up to the senior team in September.
Julien Duranville no doubt has the potential to develop into one of the best wingers in the world. If he can finally steer clear of injuries, the sky is the limit for him.
