As of today, Augsburg have officially announced the signing of Patric Pfeiffer from newly promoted Darmstadt on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old defender has signed a long-term contract at Augsburg that will see him remain in Bavaria until June 2027. He will look to strengthen Enrico Maaßen’s side defensively after their difficult end to the season that saw FCA finish just one point ahead of Stuttgart in the relegation play-off spot.

“I had a wonderful time in Darmstadt, with promotion to the Bundesliga the icing on the cake. They often say you should finish on a high note, so I have decided to start a new chapter in my career in Augsburg. The talks with FCA’s management convinced me that Augsburg is the ideal place for me to continue my journey in the Bundesliga,” said Pfeiffer.

“We’re proud that we have been able to bring Patric Pfeiffer to FCA despite lots of interest from other clubs. We’re getting one of the best defenders in the second division this season, someone who can help us achieve our goals in the coming years with his pace and his tackling and aerial ability,” added FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.

Since joining Darmstadt from Hamburg in 2019 Pfeiffer has appeared 72 times for Die Lilien, scoring six times. This season in particular has seen the defender become a key figure for the Lilies as they have been promoted back to the Bundesliga for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign.

Pfeiffer was sent off in his last appearance for Darmstadt as they would succumb to a 4-0 defeat away at Greuther Fürth. This would also see them narrowly miss out on being promoted as 2. Bundesliga champions, as Heidenheim’s dramatic winner saw them finish in first place.
