Borussia Mönchengladbach’s capture of Germany U21 international Jens Castrop has been officially confirmed. As reported earlier, the 21-year-old will move to Gladbach from German second division side Nürnberg after the current season has concluded. Castrop signed a four-year-deal with his new Bundesliga club on Sunday.
Florian Plettenberg reports that a €4.5m transfer fee has been negotiated. Plettenberg also notes that there are performance bonuses and add-ons, which are not specified. Castop has played a total of 73 games for Nürnberg in the second division. This season he has appeared in 17 games, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
“Replacing a player like Jens Castrop will be a challenge,” FCN sporting director Olaf Rebbe noted in a club statement. “These types of ’box-to-box players’ are not that common. For us, however, this transfer means a financially.“
“The decision to leave Nuremberg was not an easy one,” the player himself added. “But this is great opportunity for me to take the next step in my career. [BMG sporting director] Roland Virkus and the people in charge here have presented a positive plan for my development.
“Above all, [Gladbach] have given me a very good feeling,” Castrop concluded.
