Borussia Mönchengladbach have today announced the signing of Grant-Leon Ranos from Bayern Munich. The 19-year-old forward has signed a contract until 2027 and will join on a free transfer.
“Grant-Leon is a very interesting and talented player, who can play both as a number 9 and in attacking midfield,” said Sporting Director Roland Virkus. “He has had a very impressive season in the Regionalliga and wants to prove himself at a higher level with us, and we will help him do that.”
With a market value of €325k, according to Transfermarkt, Ranos’ contract with Bayern expires at the end of the season. The Armenian international has had a prolific season played for the second team, scoring 20 and creating 13 in 35 games in the Regionalliga Bayern.
Ranos also played 135 minutes in the UEFA Youth League this season, scoring one goal. Born in Gehrden, Germany, Ranos opted to represent Armenia and was awarded his first international cap on March 28 against Cyprus, where he scored a brace in 65 minutes.
During his time at Bayern II, Ranos has scored 23 and created 18 in 44 games. He was also clinical at youth level with 16 goals and seven assists for Bayern U19s.
Borussia Mönchengladbach signing Ranos comes with the departure of Marcus Thuram, who will leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season when his contract expires. The future of French forward Alassane Pléa also remains unclear.
