Gérald Baticle has succeeded Thierry Henry as France U21 manager, the French FA has announced. Henry resigned from his post, citing personal reasons, with his contract running until the 2025 UEFA Under-21 European Championships. Baticle was Henry’s first assistant coach and the former Arsenal legend reportedly advised the French FA to hand Baticle the hot seat.

Baticle was Olympique Lyonnais’ first assistant coach from 2011 to 2021 and was appointed Angers Sco head coach from 2021 to 2022. The 54-year-old former centre-forward joined Thierry Henry’s backroom staff when he was appointed France U21 manager last summer. Baticle’s contract as France U21 manager runs until June 2025. “I thank the French FA and its president for entrusting me with this important mission. I would like to commend Thierry Henry, who trusted me as his deputy. I am in line with the work we have carried out together.”
