Stade Rennais have officially announced the signing of Hans Hateboer (30) from Atalanta BC on a contract that will keep the Dutch international in the North of France on a two-year contract with the option for an extra year.

Hateboer had become a key figure at Atalanta since joining the Serie A side from FC Groningen in 2017. The right wingback recorded 245 appearances as a stalwart presence under manager Gian Piero Gasperini. And his last showing in the Atalanta colours came in the Europa League final where the Italian side ended Bayer Leverkusen’s invincible season.

Hateboer joins Rennes as a permanent replacement for Guela Doué (21) who left the club for RC Strasbourg earlier in the window. However, the amount that the Breton side paid for the Dutch international has not been disclosed, although L’Équipe previously reported it to be around €2 million.

On signing, Hateboer stated in the press release, “I had fantastic years with Atalanta. After winning the Europa League, I felt it was the right time to embark on a new adventure. I believe Rennes is the perfect place to continue enjoying football. Rennes is a great French club, and even though we won’t be playing in Europe this season, we should aim for European qualification.”
