Hungarian referee Istvan Kovacs has been appointed to take charge of Wendesday’s Champions League clash between Inter Milan and Arsenal.
This is confirmed by UEFA, via FCInterNews. They announce the complete list of officials for the clash, including German referee Christian Dingert on VAR duty.
This week, Inter will play their fourth match of the season in the Champions League.
And it’s a big one. The Nerazzurri take on Premier League giants Arsenal.
So far this season, Inter have managed not to lose or concede a goal in the Champions League.
The Nerazzurri opened their campaign in the competition with a hard fought draw away to Manchester City. A 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade and then a 1-0 victory over Young Boys followed.
But Arsenal will certainly put that record to the test on Wednesday evening at the San Siro.
The Gunners are one of the most formidable teams in Europe at the moment. They are, along with Inter, one of the genuine favourites to make a deep run or even win the Champions League.
Neither Inter nor Arsenal have quite found their best form so far this campaign domestically.
But nevertheless, there’s no doubt that Wednesday’s match will be a real marquee matchup.
The referee for Tuesday’s match will be Hungarian official Istvan Kovacs.
Assisting Kovacs in his duties will be fellow Hungarian officials Ferenz Tunyogy and Mihai Marica.
The role of the fourth official, meanwhile, will fall to Horatiu Fesnic.
In the VAR booth, German Christian Dingert will oversee the match to ensure to correct any errors by the on-pitch officials.
Assisting Dingert in his duties will be Romanian referee Catalin Popu.
Inter will be hoping that the focus stays on the action on the pitch rather than refereeing controversy.
