Celta Vigo have today announced a contract renewal for club captain Iago Aspas, which will see him into his 11th season in Galicia.
The 37-year-old has been at the club since 2015, when he moved following a one-season stint at Sevilla. Prior to this he originally played for the club between 2008 and 2013, making him one of the club’s most seasoned veterans.
The striker has already announced his intention for next season to be his last, meaning that this renewal will almost certainly take him through to his retirement.
Having already played 16 times for the club so far this season, scoring 6 times, Aspas is still a key fixture of the Celta Vigo squad despite his age.
With 509 appearances for the club, Aspas is the record-appearance holder for the club, meaning he is likely as important a presence off the pitch as he is on it.
The club are currently in mid-table in La Liga, and their fans will be hoping that with the help of Aspas they can pick up some good form and make a push for the European spots before the end of the season.
