Inter attacking midfielder Carboni suffered a massive setback earlier this month.

The teenage attacking midfield tore his ACL while training with the Argentina national team during the international break.

This injury came just as Carboni was beginning to find his feet at Marseille.

Carboni joined Marseille on loan during the summer. The Ligue 1 side have a massive money purchase option, whilst Inter also have a buyback option.

The Argentine did not immediately become a regular in the Marseille team under Roberto De Zerbi.

But in the team’s final match before the international break, Carboni got his first start of the season in Ligue 1.

That looked to be a positive sign that the teenager was starting to get up to the pace required. Therefore, his ACL injury has come at a particularly unfortunate time.

But Carboni has now undergone surgery on his ACL injury.

The Argentine confirmed that he has undergone the procedure in Barcelona.

Carboni is not the only high-profile player to suffer an ACL injury in recent weeks.

Perhaps the two most notable ACL injuries in European football recently have been to Manchester City midfielder Rodri and Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal.

Meanwhile, in Serie A Juventus’s Bremer and Torino’s Duvan Zapata both suffered ACL tears.

All of these players are expected to be out for quite a few months. And in fact, they risk missing out on the entire rest of the season.

It is no different for Carboni.

The Argentine will have a long road back to the pitch. Reports indicate that Inter and Marseille will agree to terminate his loan so he can come back to the Nerazzurri for his rehabilitation process.

But if there is a positive, it is that time is Carboni’s side.

The attacking midfielder is not yet twenty years of age. Therefore, even if he is out for six or more months while recovering, he can aim to go again when he’s back.
