“This morning Juan Cabal underwent reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” Juventus said.

“The surgery, which was performed at Lyon’s Hôpital Privé Jean Mermoz by Dr. Sonnery-Cottet in the presence of Dr. Stefanini, Juventus’ medical director, was a complete success. The player will begin his rehabilitation process in the coming days with a view to resuming competitive activity.”

Cabal is not expected to return to action before the start of next season, but further fitness updates will be released in the coming weeks. Cabal joined Juventus from Hellas Verona last summer in a €12.8m deal.

He provided one assist in his first nine appearances with Juventus.

The Serie A giants must cope without many other players for tomorrow’s Champions League game against Aston Villa.

Gleison Bremer is also dealing with a knee injury and is not expected to return to action before next season.
