Roma have officially confirmed that they have reached a mutual agreement to terminate the contract of right-back Rick Karsdorp, who leaves the Stadio Olimpico after seven years on the club’s books.
“I want to thank the Roma fans for these crazy seasons, I have always given my all and my two children were born in this city. This makes me very proud. Ciao Roma,” Karsdorp said in a statement released on the club website.
The Dutchman joined Roma from Feyenoord in the summer of 2017 and spent seven seasons on the club’s books. He had spent the 2019-20 season back on loan with Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
He was also informed that he would not be part of Daniele De Rossi’s plans for the upcoming season and had not been included in the matchday squad for either of the first two games of the Serie A season.
He had spent the past few weeks training individually after De Rossi’s decision to remove him from the first-team group.
Karsdorp was also involved in a blow-up with De Rosi’s predecessor, Jose Mourinho, who had also attempted to move him on after a public falling out back in 2022.
At right-back, Roma now have Zeki Celik and the recently-signed Saud Abdulhamid, who joined from Al-Hilal on Tuesday.
