FC Lorient have confirmed the signing of Formose Mendy (22) on a five-year deal. The Senegalese international joins from Ligue 2 side Amiens SC.
Formose Mendy becomes the second Mendy to join Les Merlus this week following the arrival of former Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy on a free transfer. After a ruling that found him not guilty of seven accounts of rape and another of attempted rape, the former France international signed a two-year deal with the Breton club.
Formose Mendy is a Senegal international centre-back, who during his time in Ligue 2, has featured in 63 matches across two seasons. Although the fee has not been disclosed by the club, it was reported by L’Équipe on Thursday that Lorient will pay around €7.5m to acquire Mendy’s services.
Upon the completion on the deal on Thursday night, Mendy reacted to his transfer on the club’s official website. “After two complete seasons in Ligue 2, I am very proud to join French football’s elite by joining Lorient, a club that had a brilliant campaign last season,” he said. Mendy will wear the number 13 shirt for Les Merlus.
