On Sunday, the Olympique Lyonnais women’s team bolstered their backline with a record signing.

L’Équipe reports that the transfer fee for Tarciane (21) is estimated to be around USD 960,000, the highest amount paid to a player in the French women’s top flight.

Tarciane’s former team, the Houston Dash, confirmed the news.

The Brazilian central defender has committed to the 17-time Division 1 Féminine champions until June 30, 2029.

In April 2024, Tarciane came to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) from Brazilian side Corinthians, where she’d won three league titles in the Brasileiro Feminino.

Her move to Houston was the biggest transfer fee in Brazilian women’s football history.

Sunday’s signing is a clear message that OL are eager to get back to the top of the European mountain after missing out on Naomi Girma (24), who recently joined Chelsea for a world record women’s fee of £900,000 from the San Diego Wave per the BBC.

Lyon have won a record eight UEFA Women’s Champions League titles, but their last one was back in the 2021-22 season.

Joe Montemurro’s side lead the Première Ligue with a seven-point cushion on Paris FC and have yet to lose a domestic contest.

They had a 100% record in their Champions League group this season, finishing first with 19 goals scored and just one conceded.

Last summer, Tarciane helped Brazil win a silver medal at the Olympics in Paris, taking out France in the quarter-finals (1-0).

OL held the previous record transfer for a women’s player in France when Lindsey Horan (30) joined them in June 2023 for €250,000 per L’Équipe, plus €50,000 bonus.
