Olympique de Marseille have confirmed that Faris Moumbagna (24) has sustained an ACL rupture in his right knee. Les Phocéens‘ season-opening 5-1 away win at Brest was tarnished by the Cameroon international’s knee injury. The substitute was forced off the Stade Francis Le Blé pitch only minutes after replacing Elye Wahi with Roberto De Zerbi and members of the Marseille staff fearing a serious knee ligament injury. Scans have revealed the extent of Moumbagna’s injury, as indicated by the Ligue 1 club’s medical statement.
“Faris Moumbagna, injured during the game against Stade Brestois last Saturday, suffers from a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. A surgical procedure is scheduled for this week. Olympique de Marseille wishes Faris a speedy recovery and hope to see him on the pitch as quickly as possible”, the latter reads.
Marseille are expected to scour the centre-forward market for a replacement for Moumbagna. Inter Milan’s Uruguayan striker Martin Satriano is reportedly high on Les Phocéens’ short-list.
