Borussia Mönchengladbach have wasted no time in identifying Bayern Munich-bound Yann Sommer’s replacement. The Rekordmeister were in the market for a goalkeeper following Manuel Neuer’s serious leg injury, and Die Fohlen have now announced the signing of Montpellier’s goalkeeper Jonas Omlin (29) for an estimated €8m fee. The Swiss has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the club. Omlin was one of Ligue 1’s most underrated shot-stoppers during his two-and-a-half year stay in the south of France, and played 74 games with Montpellier.

“We believe we have found a very good solution by signing Jonas Omlin, claimed Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus. He is a very reliable goalkeeper who exudes confidence, is strong on his line and is good with the ball at his feet.” Jonas Omlin will reportedly be replaced by former Montpellier man Benjamin Lecomte, according to L’Équipe. The 31-year-old AS Monaco loanee is looking for game time after having falling down the pecking order at Espanyol. Lecomte’s contract with Monaco expires in 2024 but, as L’Équipe claim, Montpellier are very optimistic over their chances of finding an agreement with Les Monégasques. The move for more playing time may be Lecomte’s last chance to enter the fray for a France’s national team spot following Hugo Lloris’ and Steve Mandanda’s international retirements.
