Montpellier have tonight announced the signing of Guinea international Issiaga Sylla, the left-back joining on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Toulouse.
The 29-year-old leaves Les Violets after over a decade at the club, and his contract was due to expire at the end of the season. Montpellier had been in the market for a defender today in the wake of Théo Sainte-Luce’s injury and Nicolas Cozza’s departure for Wolfsburg. Moroccan international Yahia Attiyat-Allah had initially looked to be their man, before a last-minute demand from the Wydad Casablanca president scuppered the deal. They nevertheless remained in the market for an experienced defender to bolster their options for the remainder of the campaign.
Sylla has made over 200 appearances with Toulouse, in a spell punctuated by loans with Gazélec Ajaccio and then Lens, and scored 11 goals and registered 13 assists during that time. He has signed a deal last two and a half years with Montpellier.
